What is Assistive Technology?

Assistive Technology (AT) is any item that helps bypass, work around or compensate for learning difficulties. AT is a process. It will change over time. AT provides access to a task, improves performance of a task and allows students with learning difficulties to work independently. AT is not information technology (IT). Technology will only assit an individual if the tool matches individual need.

Reluctant Reader Webinar

My first webinar was really neat!  We had our e-session last month but it was live... the idea of recording a session and being able to watch it any time is brilliant.  There are so many advantages:  you can go back to a presentation to refresh your memory, you can watch the session at your convenience, you can start/stop as necessary.  One pitfall is that the session is not interactive so this would limit some types of content.

I thought the apps introduced in the session were great.  All were reasonably priced and engaging.  I really appreciate that by watching this session, I saved SO MUCH time!  One problem with embracing new material for the classroom is that it takes a lot of time to research, find appropriate materials, learn how to work with the new material, work out the kinks, etc.  By learning about these apps, so much of the prep work has been done!

On to the writing session...
