What is Assistive Technology?

Assistive Technology (AT) is any item that helps bypass, work around or compensate for learning difficulties. AT is a process. It will change over time. AT provides access to a task, improves performance of a task and allows students with learning difficulties to work independently. AT is not information technology (IT). Technology will only assit an individual if the tool matches individual need.

My First Virtual Class

This morning I am attending class from home! Here is a link I want to explore later...http://udltechtoolkit.wikispaces.com/

Using Blackboard for class was wonderful.  It was really neat to use, and great to stay home!  First we discussed our Task Analysis.  We were very happy with the end product - it is comprehensive and easy to follow (we believe).

We created an amended version that is more linear and includes one extra topic (fluency) after reviewing our draft.
Next we had a presentation on matching assistive technology.  The frameworks were interesting for me to learn and I am thinking about how to incorporate the matching aspect as I formulate my case study project.  We moved into exploring software (see links below) and ended with the task of creating a tutorial for Natural Reader (a voice to text software program).
